Card Stock Airplane Designs
Cutting out and gluing paper together to make model airplanes goes back for at least 70 years. They could be found on cereal boxes to card stock handed out for advertisement. During the early 90's Dr. Yasuaki Ninomiya designed a several sets of this style of paper airplanes which were readily available in many US book stores under the name White Wings. Today these sets can still be found over auction sites such as eBay.
These paper airplanes can be made from card, cover, or index stock. This paper is sold as 65 lb or 110 lb. Both will work fine. The 8" x 8" card stock sold for scrap booking is not as thick and would have to have two sheets glued together to work well. However, if two sheets are glued then they would make a stronger paper airplane and I am going to include some models that can be made from this paper later. White poster board comes in 11" x 14" sheets and is equivalent to 140 lb index stock, the same weight stock used for White Wings. This can be cut in half to make 7" x 11" paper and produce a stronger plane.
To get you started I have provided some basic step by step instructions on how to make these paper airplanes. Check out this section to learn more about paper options.
